Student Leadership

At the heart of our school community are our students. To help us shape the school to be the best it can be, we actively seek to hear their voice and provide them with appropriate opportunities to have input into our decision-making. As Student Leadership Opportunities Coordinator, Mrs Groves is the staff member responsible for ensuring this happens as a matter of course. Below is a summary of just a few of the Student Leadership opportunities that we offer.

Senior Council

Uffculme’s Senior Council, led by the Head Boy and Head Girl, is at the core of student voice and leadership within the school. These Year 11 students, identified by their maroon ties, work alongside Mrs Groves and the Senior Leadership Team to represent and support the student body in a number of ways.

Student Council

Years 7-10 are represented by their own Student Council Ambassadors, who are identified by their green (or green and gold) ties. Each year group’s council meet regularly, working closely with their Heads of Year and peers in the year group to represent the voice of all students.

Peer Mentors

Students can apply to be Peer Mentors in Year 10 and continue this into Year 11. If successful, they undertake after school training ready to meet one-to-one each week with students in Key Stage 3 who may benefit from some extra support.

House Captains

The House Captains are selected at the end of Year 9, based on their involvement in House competitions throughout the year. Two House Captains for each of our four houses (Bridwell, Craddock, Gaddon and Yondercott) work during Year 10 to support student participation in the various House competitions run each year.

Student Surveys

Sometimes we will seek the views of all students directly, rather than through the Student Council Ambassadors. This is typically done when we want to be sure that we have heard each student’s individual experience of the school.
