Rewards
We actively encourage each student to continually strive to be their best version of themselves, and to do their best in all things. Our rewards system is designed to support these aims, and to acknowledge and celebrate their progress and successes.
Credit Marks and Certificates -
Years 7, 8 and 9
In Years 7, 8 and 9, students are awarded credit marks by staff to acknowledge them doing something that stands out in a positive way. They can be awarded for achievement (in lessons or extra-curricular activities), for hard work and effort, for participation in particular activities, for resilience and sticking with something even when it is tough going, for kindness towards others or supporting a peer that is struggling. They are given generously, but not cheaply, and students value being awarded them and are keen to earn them.
Teachers record students’ credit marks on My Child at School App and every time they have collected 50 credit marks they will be awarded a Certificate as well as being celebrated in the weekly bulletin that goes home to all families.
Weekly Awards - Years 9, 10 & 11
In Years 9, 10 and 11, students are awarded weekly awards by staff. These are awarded each week to those students that have done something exceptional - whether in class, in an extra-curricular activity, or even at a social time.
These awards take the form of a certificate that is emailed home to their families to acknowledge what they have done. Their Head of Year will also celebrate their achievement in assembly and details will be included in the weekly bulletin.
Achiever Awards - Years 8 & 9
We are keen to encourage all pupils to develop as well-rounded individuals that not only seek to do well in their studies, but also recognise the value of active participation in the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities open to them, and also appreciate the importance of persevering at things, even when they are difficult or challenging to complete. The Achiever Awards in Years 8 and 9 are designed to recognise these qualities and all students within the year group are encouraged to strive to achieve them.
In both Years 8 and 9 there are three different levels of award that a student can achieve - the Bronze Award, the Silver Award, and the Gold Award
Year 8
There are three components to the Year 8 Award. Each time they complete one component they achieve the next level of Award. The components are:
Completion of the Year 8 Uffculme Challenge - this is a 11 mile walk across the Blackdown Hills from Hemyock, back to Uffculme School. All physically able students complete the Challenge during the Autumn Term, whilst those students for whom mobility is an issue will complete an alternative in-school Project Challenge event.
Regular participation in an extra-curricular club or activity during the year
Achieving 250 Credit Marks
The three components may be completed in any order with the Bronze Award being achieved as soon as the first one is completed.
Year 9
There are three components to the Year 9 Award. Each time they complete one component they achieve the next level of Award. The components are:

Achieving 8 ‘Excellent’ grades in the Commitment to Learning section of their termly reports. (Students may accumulate their 8 ‘Excellent’ grades across their reports - they not need to all be achieved in a single report.)

Prefects
Students in Year 11 have the opportunity to take on the role of School Prefect. This responsibility is open to ALL students in their final year in the school, with no limits placed on the numbers.
To become a Prefect and maintain the responsibility the student must:
Act as a positive role model to the younger students in the school, including promoting the values of the school
Wear their school uniform appropriately and with pride
Support a staff member or department in the school by helping with jobs and tasks twice weekly (for approximately 30-40 minutes each time)
It is a highly prized responsibility which typically over 75% of the year group will apply for. Before being awarded the responsibility students must complete a 6 week probationary period.
Once students have successfully completed their probationary period, they are awarded a Silver and Maroon striped tie to signify the additional responsibilities they have taken on. they are presented with their tie in their year group assembly.
Students understand that failure to adhere to the requirements, can lead to them being suspended from the role, or even having the responsibility removed from them.
Ties
The standard school tie that is part of the School’s uniform and signifies belonging to the school community is Silver and Black stripes
Students are awarded different colour ties to recognise when they hold additional responsibilities to their peers, or in recognition of an exceptional achievement.
Gold and Black striped tie - this is awarded to those students in Years 8 and 9 that have achieved the ‘Gold’ Achiever Award for that year
Green tie - this is awarded to students elected to their Student Council for their Year Group
Green and Gold striped tie - this is awarded to members of the Student Council who have also achieved the '‘Gold’ Achiever Award for that year
Blue and Black striped tie - this is awarded to those students that are Anti-Bullying Ambassadors for the School and are available to support any of their peers that might need support or advice
Silver and Maroon striped ties - this is awarded in Year 11 to those students that have taken on the additional responsibilities of being Prefects
Maroon tie - this is awarded to students elected to the Senior School Council
Badges
Badges are awarded to students to wear on the School blazer in recognition of them doing something exceptional - whether that be in lessons, in an extra-curricular activity, or in support of their peers or the wider school.
They are hard to earn and students highly value them. Many students will consciously set their hearts and minds on achieving a particular badge and will work hard to earn it.
Badges are presented to students in front of their year group in an assembly and celebrated in the weekly bulletin.
