Admissions

Uffculme is a completely comprehensive school serving the children and families that live around the Culm Valley. Our aim is to provide every student that is entrusted to us with a truly exceptional education.

Uffculme School is a member of the Blackdown Education Partnership which is the admitting authority, responsible for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admission. We have an admissions policy for each academic year. They are written to comply with the School Admissions Code 2021 and School Admissions Appeals Code 2022.

We take part in the coordinated admissions scheme administered by Devon County Council.

Applying for a place at the School for the start of Year 7

Once you have decided you would like a place in Year 7 you must make a formal application through the Local Authority. This is known as the ‘Normal Admissions Round’. Devon County Council manage all the applications for the School as part of the Coordinated Admissions scheme. (You cannot apply directly to the School.)

You must do this by applying to the Local Authority and not directly to the school. You can find out about the DCC Admissions process on their website at DCC School Admissions

Applications can be made online via the Devon Citizen Portal or by using the forms available at http://devon.cc/applicationforms.

The closing date for making applications is 31st October, the year before they are due to start in Year 7.

Places are announced by DCC on ‘Offer Day’ (usually 31st March) - this is the day when secondary school places are allocated across England.

If parents/carers wish to appeal the admissions process with DCC (e.g. because you requested a place at the School but one has not been allocated) you can do so and information is available here.

For questions about your child joining the school or just about the admissions process in general, please don’t hesitate to contact the school direct at secretary@uffculmeschool.bep.ac, or you can contact Devon School Admissions Service on 0345 155 1019 or by email to admissions@devon.gov.uk

Applications for In-Year Admissions are managed by Devon County Council. (You cannot apply directly to the School.)
