Design & Technology
Welcome to Design & Technology
Design & Technology is a practical and valuable subject that can lead to a range of exciting careers as well as providing students with important life skills
The Design & Technology curriculum enables children and young people to build knowledge and skills that will actively contribute to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of themselves, their community and their country. Over the course of their studies students develop a critical understanding of the impact of design and technology on daily life and the wider world. But through studying this subject students also gain so much more.
Through the Design & Technology curriculum students learn how to take risks and so become more resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable. Additionally, it provides excellent opportunities for students to develop and apply value judgements of an aesthetic, economic, moral, social, and technical nature - both in their own designing and when evaluating the work of others.

Key Stage 3
In KS3 all students study Design & Technology for one lesson each week. During the course of each year, students work through a wide range of design and make projects covering all the material areas of Design and Technology. Each project is delivered through a balance of theory, design and practical work.
The KS3 curriculum is intended to provide all students with a sound knowledge and understanding of Design & Technology, and ensure that those students who choose to study the subject at GCSE, or study Engineering at KS4, have the best possible foundations to be successful.
For one term during each of Year 7, 8 and 9, students will also study KS3 Textiles. This course not only provides them with a secure grounding in this aspect of Design and Technology but also allows them to specialise in this area of the GCSE Design and Technology course at KS4 if they wish to do so.
Key Stage 4
At KS4, students have the opportunity to study the AQA GCSE in Design & Technology or to study for an equivalent qualification in Engineering, (Eduqas Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Engineering). Details of the specifications for each of these courses can be found here:
* Note - These qualifications are equivalent to full course GCSE
