Uffculme School GCSE Results 2023

There will be both sighs of relief and a great deal of celebration for students of Uffculme School as they receive their GCSE results today.  Against the backdrop of all the disruption and uncertainty of the past few years, and the government’s decision to return to the stricter exam grading of the pre-pandemic years, results have surpassed all expectations.  It is with great pride therefore that we are able to announce that 88% of students attained the official “pass grade” in both English and Maths with 88% receiving at least five good passes in all subjects.  99% of all students attained at least 5 GCSE passes across their chosen range of subjects with the average number of passes per student being 10.  And around a third of all grades awarded were equivalent to the top levels of Grades 7-9.

Alan Blackburn, Headteacher said, “In what has continued to be a challenging period for all young people, the students of Uffculme School have once again excelled.  They have consistently demonstrated a positive attitude and shown tremendous resilience in the face of everything that has been thrown at them over the past 2-3 years. This was a really determined year group, who made the most of all the opportunities that the school offered to them.  We were already extremely proud of them, and we are so pleased that their efforts have been rewarded as they completely deserved.”

There have also been some truly exceptional individual achievements across the whole ability range with many students surpassing their target grades despite the difficult circumstances.  Top performing students this year included Emily Packham who attained an astonishing nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8 and Abigail Churchward who closely followed by attaining eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s.  Also, Alice Denning, Aidan Briant, Lauren Colclough, Esme Whitefield, Jamie Heath, John Merrick and Anya Trollope, all deserve special mentions for each achieving at least 5 Grade 9s along with the rest of their results which were all at Grade 8 or 7.

Uffculme school has a long track record of academic excellence to go alongside its reputation for the care and support for its students, and this year despite the various challenges that have been faced, this has not only been maintained, but further enhanced.  Alan Blackburn said, “Our staff have worked incredibly hard to challenge and support every student in the year group, to help them believe in themselves and to put in place the strongest possible foundations for their futures, and without exception they have each risen to this.  We are so proud of each one of them.  We now wish every student the very best for what lies ahead and look forward to following their stories in the future.”
